When I decided to add comic books, cartoons, comic strips to my offerings, I decided to approach it as I used to approach program acquisitions when I was in competitive intelligence for an information systems consulting company. Find out all you can, talk to as many folk as you can.
Actually that isn't completely correct, I did this with any job that I worked my way up into. When I was box office manager for a dinner theatre, I started as a box office assistant, I worked as a hostess in the theatre and as a subscriptions assistant on the floor during intermission. Learn all you can about what ever it is you are looking to do. I used social media to contact comic book writers, illustrators, pencillers, comic strip authors. I asked a bunch of questions so that I would be equipped to give the answers. Also if I don't know the answer, I have a collection of varied artists to call upon, who are always gratefully just a phone call, email, google chat, skype, facetime away. They also are available to my students. This craft (for the most part) is a friendly, inclusive and supportive group of artists, they want to see others succeed. They know, and so should anyone who is interested in creating art knows, no two projects are alike. We celebrate our differences. We share our stories. Isn't it time to share yours?
